The awkward moment Mark E Smith compared The Fall to “a Nazi organisation”
“I know it all…”
Mark E. Smith was an English singer, songwriter and musician best known as the founder, frontman and only constant member of the influential post-punk band the Fall. Formed in Manchester in 1976, the Fall became one of Britain’s most prolific and uncompromising bands, releasing more than 30 studio albums under Smith’s leadership. Renowned for his acerbic lyrics, distinctive spoken-word vocal style and fiercely independent approach to music, Smith drew on punk, rockabilly, garage rock, electronic music and literary influences to create a body of work unlike any of his contemporaries. Though rarely courting mainstream success, he became one of the most respected and influential figures in alternative music, inspiring artists across indie rock, post-punk and experimental music.

“It’s all been trashed to fuck.”
An essential aspect of their sound.
A spooky premonition.
