Kirk Hammett is an American musician best known as the lead guitarist of Metallica, one of the most influential and successful heavy metal bands in history.
Joining the band in 1983 shortly before the recording of Kill ‘Em All, Hammett helped define Metallica’s signature sound through his technically accomplished solos, melodic phrasing and incorporation of blues and hard rock influences into thrash metal.
Over the course of his career, he has contributed to landmark albums including Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, …And Justice for All, Metallica (The Black Album) and 72 Seasons. Regarded as one of rock’s greatest guitarists, Hammett has inspired generations of musicians while also developing a reputation as a passionate collector of horror memorabilia.
