Japanese Breakfast are an American indie pop band formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 2013 by musician, songwriter and author Michelle Zauner.
Originally conceived as Zauner’s solo recording project following her time in the emo band Little Big League, Japanese Breakfast evolved into a full touring band while retaining Zauner as its creative centre.
Blending indie pop, dream pop, synth-pop and shoegaze influences, the group has earned widespread critical acclaim for emotionally resonant songwriting and adventurous production. Albums including ‘Psychopomp’, ‘Soft Sounds from Another Planet’, ‘Jubilee’ and ‘For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)’ have established Japanese Breakfast as one of the defining indie acts of the 21st century. The band has also received multiple Grammy Award nominations and built a devoted international following.
The soundtrack comes out on June 13th.
