Sylvester Stallone calls Donald Trump the “second George Washington”

Sylvester Stallone has shared his support for president-elect Donald Trump. At an event in Palm Beach, the actor welcomed Trump to the stage and hailed him as the “second George Washington.”

On November 14th, Donald Trump hosted an event at Mar-a-Lago, the resort he owns in Florida. Celebrating his winning of the US Election, the president-elect made a speech at the America First Policy Institute, which is the think-tank founded in 2021 to promote Trump’s public policy.

The politician and actor Sylvester Stallone shook hands at the event after Stallone welcomed him to the stage with a grand introduction. During his speech, the Hollywood star likened Trump to his character Rocky Balboa, and drew connections between the politician and Jesus.

“We are in the presence of a really mythical character. I love mythology,” Stallone said in his speech. In the room, there were several figures now tapped to be part of Trump’s administration, including Matt Gaetz, who is the nominee for Attorney General.

Stallone continued, “Nobody in the world could’ve pulled off what he pulled off. So I’m in awe.” Praising the politician for his election victory and leadership, Stallone made his support for Trump clear in a glowing speech about the merits he sees in the politician.

During the speech, he compared Trump to another former president. “I’ll just say this — and I mean it,” he said. “When George Washington defended his country, he had no idea that he was going to change the world. Because without him, you could imagine what the world would look like. Guess what? We got the second George Washington. Congratulations!”

Stallone has made his support for Trump known for a long time. However, back in 2016, during his initial presidential run, the actor seemed slightly more conflicted about his feelings about the figure as he said to Variety, “I love Donald Trump. He’s a great Dickensian character. You know what I mean?… But I don’t know how that translates to,” before laughing and adding, “running the world.”

However, Trump’s feelings towards the actor might be even more confusing. During the interviews for his book Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass, author Ramin Setoode recalled the politician being almost fixated on Stallone or jealous of him. While Trump was on The Apprentice, the actor was also hosting a reality show called The Contender, and Trump brought this up routinely, claiming “Sylvester Stallone wasn’t as good at making TV” and that he “couldn’t remember his lines, couldn’t deliver the words to the prompter.”
