Sydney Sweeney responds to ‘James Bond’ rumours
Sydney Sweeney has responded to rumours she could be cast in Amazon MGM Studio’s upcoming James Bond movie.
While there is no 007 currently attached to the project, Dune director Denis Villeneuve has been confirmed to helm the upcoming movie, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight to write the script for the untitled feature.
A new feature with Sweeney in Variety claims that Amazon owner Jeff Bezos is keen for the Euphoria star to play a role in the forthcoming film. It also notes how she attended his wedding to Lauren Sanchez this summer and that the trio are also working together on a lingerie business.
However, Sweeney was coy when pressed on the subject, stating, “I can’t. [Seven-second pause.] I don’t know. [Ten-second pause.] To be honest, I don’t know all the Bond rumors, but I’ve always been a huge fan of the franchise, and I’m excited and curious to see what they do with it.”
She then said that it “depends on the script” as to whether it would be the right project for her, and also declared, “I think I’d have more fun as James Bond”.
Meanwhile, a recent report revealed the true price that Amazon MGM Studios paid for creative control of the Bond franchise, which is a fraction of the previously reported $1 billion figure.
The report reads: “On 20 February 2025, the company entered into an agreement for the sale of its interest in the Bond franchise, all associated assets as well as its subsidiary companies, B24 Limited and B25 Limited. The total consideration for the sale amounted to $20 million (USD).”
It remains unclear when production will begin on the upcoming Bond movie as Villeneuve remains occupied with the final instalment of his Dune franchise, set for release in cinemas on December 18th, 2026.
Upon being announced as director earlier this year, he shared of his vision for the film, “I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour.”
Meanwhile, Sweeney will next appear in Christy, a biopic on boxer Christy Martin, which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in September ahead of a November 7th theatrical release.
