“Suspiria is the closest thing to modern Stanley Kubrick I’ve ever seen,” says Chloe Grace Moretz
Actress Chloe Grace Moretz has heaped praise on director Luca Guadagnino for his work on upcoming horror film Suspiria.
Moretz, who plays the role of Patricia Hingle in the adaptation of the original which was released in 1977, has described the film more as a “homage” to the original version rather than a remake.
The picture, starring the likes of Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson and Jessica Harper, will also include Radiohead’s Thom Yorke who has put together his first-ever film score. Harper was the lead actress of the original film, although she appears in a different role.
In a bold evaluation of the new film, Moretz said: “This is a really big statement, but this is the closest to modern Stanley Kubrick I‘ve ever seen,” Moretz said at an event during the Provincetown Film Festival earlier this month. “You’re put into a world, which I can only describe it as being like ‘The Shining’ in a lot of ways, where you’re just encompassed in a filmmaker’s brain and you’re just implanted in there, and there’s nothing like it that you will ever see.”
“It’s secretive and I want it to be secretive because you guys are gonna be so shocked. It is WILD. It’s crazy. I can say this, I speak German mainly in the movie. So you won’t recognize me very well. I seem like a different person and I sound like a different person.”
Describing director Guadagnino as incredibly supportive, the actress heaped yet more praise on the filmmaker: “It’s unlike any other directing process I have ever been a part of. It’s Luca’s. Luca is Luca and there’s kind of no mistaking it for anything else,” she said. “He’ll let you do the craziest stuff on screen and won’t bat an eye, he’ll tell you to go farther.”
Amazon Studios recently unveiled the first trailer for the highly-anticipated film which is set to be pretty gruesome. The teaser is made up entirely of disconnected images. According to the film’s description, the premise if the feature is a young American aspiring dancer who travels to Germany to perfect ballet dancing at a famous ballet school in Berlin. While attending, students begin to disappear and she soon finds out that the school has a dark history involving witchcraft and gruesome deaths.
