Stevie Nicks confirms she’s working on new album: “I’m not pulling any punches”

Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks confirmed at the Pollstar Hall of Fame on April 16th that she’s currently recording a new album.

Nicks’ last album, In Your Dreams, arrived in 2011. For the last 14 years, she has toured extensively both with Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist, but these commitments to the road have led her to neglect recording new material.

However, after being inducted into the Pollstar Hall of Fame by producer Jimmy Iovine, who she had worked closely at the start of her solo career, Nicks stated that she’s “actually making a record right now”.

Although the record is still in its early stages, Nicks revealed, “I call it the ‘Ghost’ record because it just kind of happened in the last couple of weeks.”

The music icon continued: “I have seven songs and they are autobiographical, real stories where I’m not pulling any punches for probably the first time in my life. They’re not airy-fairy songs that you’re wondering who they’re about, but you really don’t get it. They are real stories, memories of mine, of fantastic men.”

Elsewhere, Nicks used her speech to remember her late friend Prince. She explained to the crowd that she saw Purple Rain in the cinema, but a violent scene involving the musician slapping Apollonia caused her to “freak out” and “go to the fancy bathroom and sit there for the rest of the whole movie.”

Nicks stated she told Prince that she only enjoyed the first half of the film, and in response, he bought her a gift as a form of apology, stating, “‘It’s a really beautiful 24 carat necklace with little gold hearts on it.’ And he goes, ‘I don’t want your necklace’ and then he said, ‘You always bring me a gift. You never bring me you.’”

Earlier this week, Nicks confirmed a new set of headline shows, which could be the perfect time to preview new material. The tour is set to begin at the TD Garden in Boston on August 12th before rolling into Toronto on August 15th, Saint Paul on August 19th, Cincinnati on August 23rd, Columbia on August 27th and Tampa on August 30th.

After a brief pause in her touring, Nicks will resume her duties on the road in October with headline dates in Phoenix, Las Vegas and Oklahoma City.
