Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks has heaped praise on Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana member Dave Grohl, labelling the musician as “one of the best drummers in the world” after the two collaborated on her new solo song.
Earlier this month, Nicks released her new number Show Them The Way’ which features Grohl on the sticks, a track which arrived as her first new release in six years. Speaking about the addition of the former Nirvana man, the singer said she “couldn’t be happier” to have “a good friend” working with her when in conversation with Dazed.
Speaking about the song specifically, Nick said: “One night I had a dream. A dream that was so real that I was pretty sure it had happened. It was a cinematic story. It had a beginning, a middle and an end. Every detail, every color, every smile was there. I started writing the story the moment my eyes opened,” Nicks explained. “I wrote the poem the next day, and the music the day after that. I never recorded it until now. I felt that this was its time, its reason. I understood what it meant then and what it means now. Please God, show them the way. Please God, on this day. Spirits all, give them the strength. Peace can come if you really want it. I think we’re just in time to save it.”
After describing Grohl as “one of the best drummers in the world”, Nicks revealed that producer Greg Kurstin was the person who got the collaborative wheels in motion when he invited the drummer to feature on the song. “When I talked to Dave the other day, he told me it was the first time he has [recorded drums] in his actual house,” she said.
“He said, ‘I’ve never done this before, but I thought, you know what? I can do it.’ And so he mic’d all the drums, used ProTools, and recorded the drums himself.”
She added: “Probably much to the chagrin of his entire family, especially his three daughters!”
