Steven Drozd confirms he’s left The Flaming Lips
Multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd has said that he’s no longer a member of The Flaming Lips.
Drozd has been a pivotal part of the band’s sound since joining in 1991, playing many different instruments and also contributing heavily to the songwriting process. However, he has now said that his time with the group has come to an end.
The musician made the revelation in a now-deleted reply to a fan on Threads, who asked (via Consequence) if he was “officially done with the FLips”.
Drozd responded, “They’re done with me – but we’re not talking about it. So yes I’m moving on. Just keep it to yourself for now. OK?”
Notably, Drozd has not performed live with The Flaming Lips in recent months and has been replaced in the line-up by AJ Slaughter.
The Flaming Lips have not commented on Drozd’s remarks regarding his departure.
The group, presumably without Drozd, are set to perform a special New Year’s Eve show at The Anthem in Washington, DC, later this month.
Next summer, they will return to Europe for a run of shows, including a date at The Piece Hall in Halifax on July 23rd, as well as dates in Galway, InMusic in Zagreb, Belgrade, Prague, and Vienna.
They are also set to perform at Latitude Festival in Suffolk. The event, which will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2026, is set to be headlined by David Byrne, Lewis Capaldi and Teddy Swims.
The line-up also boasts Wet Leg, The Last Dinner Party, Self Esteem, Tom Grennan, Alex James’ Britpop Classical, English Teacher, Kevin Morby, Dry Cleaning, Billy Ocean, Alice Phoebe Lou, Just Mustard and Vanessa Carlton.
