Stephen King calls out “fanboy hate” for ‘The Marvels’ weak box office

Author Stephen King has called out the people who have “fanboy hate” for the poor box office numbers of The Marvels, which fell short of expectations on its opening weekend in the United States.

With box office numbers of $ 47 million, the new film is the lowest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe movie since The Incredible Hulk was released back in 2008. However, at the global box office, The Marvels has taken $88million. The motion picture has since become a target for those hoping to poke fun at the MCU.

In a Twitter post, King criticised those who have taken to social media and revelled in the commercial failure of the movie, noting that he believes it might come down to “adolescent fanboy hate”.

“I don’t go to MCU movies, don’t care for them, but I find this barely masked gloating over the low box office for THE MARVELS very unpleasant,” King wrote. “Why gloat over failure?”

The famed horror writer added, “Some of the rejection of THE MARVELS may be adolescent fanboy hate. You know, ‘Yuck! GIRLS!'”

The Marvels, directed by Nia DaCosta, brings together Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani). It serves as a sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel and also to the Disney+ shows WandaVision and Ms. Marvel.
