Stellan Skarsgård hits out at “absurd” Donald Trump comments
Stellan Skarsgård has addressed the recent claims President Donald Trump has made with regard to European territory, whereby he has demanded that Denmark handover its autonomous region of Greenland.
In an appearance alongside Norwegian director Joachim Trier at the European Film Awards in Berlin, the pair shared their thoughts on the current Trump administration.
“You want us to comment on what’s happening in Greenland?” Skarsgård clarified a question posed by the audience before sternly presenting his point of view.
“It’s absurd, isn’t it? It’s a little man who got megalomania, and he’s trying to take the world,” Skarsgård said of Trump.
He added, “He took Venezuela, suddenly, and that’s for Chevron. He’ll take Greenland for minerals. He’s a criminal.”
Skarsgård, who recently won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor, alluded to the fact that Trump is pushing to expand the license of the energy giant, Chevron, for its oil production in Venezuela, after he removed Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro from power.
Trump has recently threatened to impose 25% trade tariffs on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland should a deal ending in the US acquisition of Greenland not come to fruition. Many countries continue to insist that Greenland isn’t for sale.
The Good Will Hunting actor isn’t the only one to hit out at the President of the United States lately. On January 17th, singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen used an unbilled show to encourage Americans in New Jersey to “send a message to this president as the mayor of that city has said, ICE should get the fuck out of Minneapolis.”
Skarsgård and Trier recently collaborated on the tender project, Sentimental Value, which also stars Renate Reinsve, Elle Fanning, and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas. It follows sisters, Nora and Agnes, who reunite with their estranged father, a renowned director, who offers Nora a star role in his comeback film.
