Stage musical of ‘The Lost Boys’ is in development
The 1987 cult classic horror-comedy The Lost Boys, which propelled Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Feldman and Corey Haim to stardom, is undergoing an adaptation into a stage musical.
The creative team behind this adaptation includes David Hornsby, known for his work as a writer on the sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, director Michael Arden from Parade, and the pop-rock band The Rescues.
The venture is overseen by first-time collaborators and recognised stage and film actors Patrick Wilson, James Carpinello, and Marcus Chait. This stage adaptation will be produced through a special arrangement with Warner Bros Theatre Ventures.
The stage production of The Lost Boys also boasts a talented creative team featuring book writers Hornsby and Chris Hoch, recognised for their Broadway appearances in productions such as Shrek The Musical, Matilda, and A Christmas Carol. Along with The Rescues, the music will be crafted by Ethan Popp, known for his work on Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, serving as the music supervisor.
Set in the fictional town of Santa Carla, California, The Lost Boys unravels the story of two brothers, Michael and Sam, portrayed in the film by Patric and Haim, who encounter a group of charismatic and enigmatic teenagers led by the magnetic David, played by Kiefer Sutherland.
As Michael becomes entangled in the allure of the nocturnal lifestyle, it’s up to Sam and a quirky duo of vampire-hunting siblings, the Frog Brothers, to save him from an eternity of darkness. This musical adaptation will represent the first producing partnership among actors Wilson, Carpinello, and Chait.
