St. Vincent describes upcoming Dave Grohl collaboration as “mind-blowing”

St. Vincent has discussed her forthcoming album All Born Screaming, including her “mind-blowing” collaboration with Dave Grohl on ‘Flea’.

The upcoming album, which has been teased by lead single ‘Broken Man’, is set to arrive on April 26th through Virgin Music and Fiction Records. Although Annie Clark has taken care of production duties herself, she did recruit a group of special guests such as Stella Mogzawa from Warpaint and Cate Le Bon.

In addition to featuring on lead guitar on ‘Broken Man’, Grohl also provided a helping hand on ‘Flea’, which is currently unreleased.

Speaking with The New Cue, Clark discussed the latter, which she revealed to be a highlight of the recording process.

She explained: “I have a couple of favourite moments. One would be having Dave Grohl come over to my studio. The second he kicks in on the first chorus of Flea, it’s just mind-blowing, my whole musical life flashes before my eyes and lightning up my spine, he just set me on fire. It’s so exciting to hear him play and he’s playing on one of my songs, what?! So that would be one.”

Clark also gave props to Le Bon, noting: “The other would be hanging with Cate Le Bon, who worked on the record. We did a pass on [title track] All Born Screaming in the room together with the microphone and me and Cate singing and it only happened once but we did a perfect ‘oh, oh’ harmony, it happens in the song, it’s the mark between the first half of the song and the second section. Nothing was planned or written, it just happened and it was perfectly balanced.”

All Born Screaming marks Clark’s first release since 2021’s Daddy Home, which was an extremely personal record that dealt with her complex relationship with her father, who had recently been released from prison.
