St. Vincent announces new album ‘All Born Screaming’

St. Vincent has unveiled details of her forthcoming eighth album All Born Screaming, set for release on April 26th through Virgin Music and Fiction Records.

To preview the forthcoming release, Annie Clark has shared the new single ‘Broken Man’, offering the first taste of things to come from All Born Screaming. Additionally, the lead track arrives alongside a video shot by Alex Da Corte in Philadelphia.

Despite All Born Screaming being self-produced by Clark, the record is littered with special guests such as Rachel Eckroth, Josh Freese, Dave Grohl, Mark Guiliana, Cate Le Bon, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Stella Mogzawa and David Ralicke.

In a statement, Clark says of All Born Screaming: “There are some places, emotionally, that you can only get to by taking the long walk into the woods alone—to find out what your heart is really saying. It sounds real because it is real.”

All Born Screaming marks Clark’s first release since 2021’s Daddy Home, which was an extremely personal record that dealt with her complex relationship with her father, who had recently been released from prison.

In a recent conversation with Mojo, she explained: “The last record, I was approaching tough subjects with a lot of biting humour and wit. I put on a wig, I was prancing around, it was so fun. This record is darker and harder and more close to the bone. I’d say it’s my least funny record yet! There’s nothing cute about it.”

In the same interview, Clark stated All Born Screaming is dominated by guitars and analogue synths, resulting in a sound she describes as “urgent and psychotic, in equal parts the most caustic sound and also, I think, the most sonically blooming. It’s high stakes and intentional.”

“I like to think of [the record] as post-plague pop, it’s a lot about heaven and hell — the metaphorical kinds,” she added.
