St. Vincent and Carrie Brownstein’s new film, The Nowhere Inn, will be given its premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.
The meta film, which has been co-written, produced and also stars the two musicians, details a behind-the-scenes scenario as they attempt to create a documentary.
In what is being described as a satirical concert tour film, with both musicians playing themselves, the project has been directed by Bill Benz.
“When St. Vincent sets out to make a documentary about her music, the goal is to both reveal and revel in the unadorned truth behind her on-stage persona,” the synopsis reads. “But when she hires a close friend to direct, notions of reality, identity, and authenticity grow increasingly distorted and bizarre.”
