Spotify has suspended political advertising until it can improve its ad standards
The streaming giant Spotify has confirmed that it will be banning political ads on it’s platform in 2020 until they can properly investigate each advertisement.
The platform has fallen in line with Google and Twitter by suspending paid political advertisements in a bid to end misinformation. The announcement comes amid growing criticism of online platforms whose advertising standards are way behind that of other media.
In a statement to Variety and Ad Age, Spotify said, “We do not yet have the necessary level of robustness in our processes, systems, and tools to responsibly validate and review this content. We will reassess this decision as we continue to evolve our capabilities.”
However, the platform did also confirm that ads that are embedded in third party content such as podcasts will not be affected.
