‘Spinal Tap II: The End Continues’ share first look of new movie

Fans can finally peer into the wacky universe of Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, the long-awaited sequel to Rob Reiner’s 1984 mockumentary This is Spinal Tap.

Since its release over four decades ago to lacklustre reviews, the original movie has since become a cult classic. It has even been enshrined in the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Now, the sequel is finally here. It will feature the original cast of Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer and Rob Reiner as the fictional bands’ members. Director Rob Reiner has also recently discussed a few famous faces, including Paul McCartney and Elton John, who will appear in the upcoming movie.

Since Reiner’s directorial debut, he has gone on to produce Academy Award-nominated work A Few Good Men, in addition to cult classics like The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally and Misery.

Along with the previously released teaser trailer, the new pictures depict the original cast in all their glory on stage. The official synopsis also reveals that the movie will track “the now estranged bandmates David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls, [who] are forced to reunite for one final concert.”

The beloved mockumentary universe suffered a recent blow, after David Kaff, who played the character of keyboardist Viv Savage, sadly passed away at the age of 79 on July 11th. News of his death was shared by his band Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom, who wrote in tribute: “Our brother David Kaffinetti passed away peacefully in his sleep yesterday. We are devastated by this event. David always had a kind word and a quick wit that would slay you where you stand. Then he’d make you smile doing it!”

Bleecker Street, the company behind films such as Captain Fantastic, Logan Lucky, and Hard Truths, has acquired the US distribution rights and set a release date of September 12th.
