The first trailer for David Byrne’s American Utopia has been released by HBO.
The new film, which will arrive in October on HBO Max, has been directed by the critically acclaimed director Spike Lee and is an adaptation of the former Talking Heads frontman’s Broadway Show of the same name American Utopia. The film project is being produced by Byrne’s Todomundo and Lee’s Forty Acres and a Mule Filmworks production companies, as well as RadicalMedia.
“Pinch me. This couldn’t have worked out better for this project,” Byrne said previously. “Spike Lee directing and Participant producing—two socially engaged teams, well, three if you count us in the band, coming together in what I feel will be something moving, important, and unlike anything anyone has seen before.”
He added: “Spike and I have crossed paths many times over the years, obviously I’m a huge fan, and now finally here was an opportunity for us to work together. I am absolutely thrilled with the result.”
Speaking about the film, which is due to be released on October 17th, director Lee added: “It is my honor and privilege that my art brother, Mr. David Byrne, asked me to join him in concert, to invite me into his magnificent world of American Utopia.”
