South Park weighs in on Jimmy Kimmel in first episode since death of Charlie Kirk
South Park finally returned for their first episode since the assassination of Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
The new episode, titled ‘Conflict of Interest’, was intended for broadcast on September 17th, but the creators delayed the release hours before it was meant to go live. Co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone said, “Apparently, when you do everything at the last minute, sometimes you don’t get it done. This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week.”
The new episode targets Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Carr famously put pressure on ABC to cancel Jimmy Kimmel Live in light of his Charlie Kirk comments. Kimmel is now back on air.
In the new episode, Kyle is upset after he learns his schoolmates are using a prediction markets app to bet on whether his mother will bomb a hospital in Gaza. He calls the app’s strategic advisor, who turns out to be Donald Trump Jr. Kyle is then instructed to call the FCC, who are “dealing with all the offensive stuff now.”
Concurrently, Carr visits the White House, but accidentally falls victim to various slapstick schemes that Trump is using in an attempt to abort his baby with Satan. As a result of one of the illnesses Carr experiences, his “freedom of speech” is threatened. JD Vance’s character later directly references Carr’s threat to ABC over Kimmel: “We can do this the easy way, or the hard way.”
An earlier episode of the 27th season also mocked the late Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk, who saw the funny side of Cartman attempting to follow in his footsteps as a “master debator”. Cartman also attends a ceremony for ‘The Charlie Kirk Award for Young Masterdebaters’ in ‘Got A Nut’.
Kirk took to the satire well, deeming it “hilarious”. Before his death, he commented online, “We have a good spirit about being made fun of. This is all a win. We as conservatives have thick skin, not thin skin, and you can make fun of us and it doesn’t matter.”
The remaining episodes of South Park’s 27th season will air on October 15th, October 29th, November 12th, November 26th, and December 10th.
