Having released her brand new album When I Get Home to some rapturous acclaim yesterday, Solange (the sister of Beyonce, if you’ve been living under a rock) has now announced that the album will have an accompanying film to be released alongside it.
Directed by Solange herself with the help of contributing directors Alan Ferguson, Terence Nance, Jacolby Satterwhite, and Ray Tintori. It also includes contributions from Autumn Knight and Robert Pruitt the film is now available for download via Apple Music.
“The film is an exploration of origin, asking the question how much of ourselves do we bring with us versus leave behind in our evolution,” Solange’s representatives said in a statement. “The artist returned to Third Ward Houston to answer this.”
Solange naturally stars in the film, which uses When I Get Home’s songs as starting points for its brilliant and sometimes strange scenes. The film is full of notable moments. It’s got elaborate choreography, a fleet of DeLoreans, rodeo scenes, a masked man riding on horseback, a woman welding a spaceship console, and much more, including a surreal animated scene.
