Solange cancels Coachella Festival performance

Solange has been forced to cancel her headline slot at the 2019 Coachella Festival due to “major production delays”.

Coachella, kicking off on Friday April 12th, was due to be the stage for Solange’s first performance since the release of her albumWhen I Get Home.

“Due to major production delays, Solange will unfortunately no longer be performing at this year’s festival,” Coachella said in a statement. “She sends her sincerest apologies, and looks forward to performing at Coachella in the future,” the festival added.

Given the last minute withdrawal, Coachella are yet to announce if they are going to replace Solange or, alternatively, bump up somebody else on the lineup

The news comes as the second negative story in as many days. Yesterday Far Out reported the news that a stagehand had tragically died while setting up the event.

The worker’s identity has not been announced at this time but Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron confirmed to the Palm Springs area publication the Desert Sun that a worker died Saturday morning.

It is believed that the worked died after falling in the staging area at the site of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, suffering a traumatic injury at the Empire Club Polo grounds.

In a post on social media, Cal Fire Riverside claimed the “traumatic injury” occurred after the person “fell from a roof and perished at the scene” near Avenue 50 and Monroe Street.

Coachella festival will take place at the Empire Polo Club grounds the weekend of April 19-21.

Goldenvoice, the production company behind Coachella, confirmed the death and described the worker as “a friend, a family member.”

“Today, Goldenvoice lost a colleague, a friend, a family member,” a statement read. “Our friend fell while working on a festival stage. It is with heavy hearts and tremendous difficulty that we confirm his passing.

“He has been with our team for 20 years in the desert and was doing what he loved. He was a hard-working and loving person that cared deeply about his team. As our lead rigger, he was responsible for the countless incredible shows that have been put on at the festival. We will miss him dearly.”
