SOAK is one of those artists which can sometimes slip under the radar, not because of a lack of excitement or talent but because that both excitement and talent is so indicative of their nature they seem to us as already seasoned professionals. The 18 year old singer/songwriter releases her second track ‘Sea Creatures’ via Rough Trade Records with her hotly anticipated Album soon to follow.
‘Sea Creatures’ is a touching and beautifully laid out track with her dainty vocals vastly complemented by her coy and yet astutely observational lyrics, which carve out a vulnerable and veracious view of adolescence. Centred around watching a friend be bullied at school the song hints at the softness or Laura Marling but with the soundscaping astuteness of Beach House.
‘Sea Creatures’ was originally written when Birdie was just 14 years old and it’s delicacy speaks of a huge potential. It’s a potential which has been recognized all over the industry and now SOAK has a not only a massive date with Annie Mac at the ICA on Feb 4, but a free Skatepark tour as Birdie indulges her other passion in life apart from making incredibly emotive music.
