Smashing Pumpkins’ James Iha defends Billy Corgan over D’Arcy Wretzky feud

Two things have been well documented over the recent Smashing Pumpkins reunion tour and record. Firstly, that Billy Corgan has seen shapeshifters in real life, and secondly, that he and original bassist D’Arcy Wretzky are no longer on speaking terms.

During a round of interviews in support of the new tour and album, Corgan has been almost continuously rebuking claims made by the original band member D’Arcy Wretzky. Ranging from his mistreatment of her as a band member to claiming he had a brain tumour the feud has largely been contained to the frontman ad his former bassist.

But now in an interview with Guitar World, guitarist James Iha has waded into the debate to support Corgan. “Billy tried his best. In the big picture, I think everybody is at different points in their lives, and whoever can work it out and get it together with the band can do it. It’s just one of those things.”

In the same interview Corgan went on to say “I was pretty public about wanting her to be involved,” said Corgan. “I think it would been the best for everybody, including her, but it just didn’t work out.”

Adding: “I’m not in any hurry to throw any more gasoline on the fire. It is what it is. She’s done, and that’s that.”
