Slowthai has shared an emotional cover of The Verve song ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’.
Earlier this year, Slowthai shared his sophomore album, TYRON, which gave the Northampton rapper his first number one record. Now, in a session for Annie Mac’s ‘Future Sounds’ show on BBC Radio 1, Slowthai delivered a chilling cover of ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’.
Speaking to Annie Mac over Zoom from his home following the pre-recorded session, Slowthai detailed his choice of cover and admitted he’s no Richard Ashcroft. “You know when you’re singing along in the car, and you’re having a great time,” Slowthai explained.
“I was like I’ll do that song and then when it come to doing it, we were rehearsing it, and I was like, ‘Ah, I’m not quite Richard (Ashcroft). I gave it a crack,” the rapper laughed.
He’ll be hitting the road in August, starting with a run of intimate dates beginning with a show at Glasgow’s G2. The tour will culminate at The Underworld in Camden on September 9th after visits to Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club, Oxford’s The Bullingdon, The Joiners in Southampton and The Hare & Hounds in Birmingham.
Then next year, Slowthai will be taking his Hell Is Home tour to Dublin on the 13th and visit cities like Manchester, Cardiff, Liverpool, Leeds and Southampton before wrapping things up in celebratory style with a residency at Brixton Academy.
