Slowthai turns 26 today and, to celebrate his birthday, he has shared the visceral new track titled ‘Thoughts’.
The track is a stand-alone release and isn’t set to appear on his forthcoming sophomore record TYRON, which is due to be released in February. ‘Thoughts’ is a world away from the melancholic nature of his previous two single ‘nhs’ and ‘feel away’, which featured Mount Kimbie and James Blake.
Slowthai is an artist that has a split personality, some songs like ‘Thoughts’ see him vent his frustration at the world and play up to the villainous side of his character. In contrast, his singles from TYRON so far showcase the kindhearted part of Tyron Frampton.
TYRON will feature a guest appearance from Skepta and A$AP Rocky and is set to be one of the rapper’s most personal records after Slowthai said that the album was “created during a difficult time in my life”.
“I am far from perfect, but I’ve learnt a lot about myself while creating this album and I will continue to grow into a better person for myself and aim to be a reflection of what I want to see in this world,” the rapper noted.
“I hope this album can be the light if you’re in the dark, and to know that you’re not alone,” he added. “It’s OK to be yourself, fuck everything else,” he said.
