Slam Dunk Director to step down amid allegations: “An ongoing legal matter”

Slam Dunk festival has announced that an unidentified director has agreed to step down from operations following unspecified allegations that had recently come to light.

The organisation shared a statement via social media, which began, “We are aware of allegations published yesterday relating to one of our directors. We take these allegations seriously and understand that they may be distressing and hard to process for our community.”

After highlighting that the festival’s priority will always be “Slam Dunk fans, staff, and artists”, the statement continued to reference the unfortunate situation: “While he strongly refutes these allegations, the director in question has agreed, in consultation with the board, to step down from Slam Dunk operations while this matter is ongoing.”

In light of the allegations, which are now being investigated by police, the festival reassured future attendees that the festival “remains committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all employees, partners, and customers.”

After disabling comments from the post, the organisation added that “it would be inappropriate for us to comment further on an ongoing legal matter”.

Nonetheless, what the festival could promise at this time is “transparency and honesty to our Slam Dunk community and will provide updates when it is appropriate to do so”.

The statement follows posts that appeared on several social media platforms, including screenshots between the accuser and the man accused. However, these posts have since been taken down as advised by the police. Reluctantly, the woman “followed their instructions”.

Slam Dunk will return for its 20th anniversary this year at Hatfield Park in Hertfordshire on May 23rd and Temple Newsam in Leeds on May 24th.

The lineup boasts a European exclusive performance from Good Charlotte, as well as bands like Tonight Alive, Knocked Loose, Boston Manor, State Champs, and Taking Back Sunday. President, a band believed to be fronted by Busted’s Charlie Simpson, will also make an appearance at the pop-punk-focused festival.
