Sky Ferreira has announced plans to share her latest song ‘Downhill Lullaby’, the first new material in six years, tomorrow.
Ferreira’s last full-length release, her debut album Night Time, My Time, was released in 2013. Since then she has had ongoing battles with her label, recorded numerous demos in the studio and taken up roles in a number of feature in films.
Talk around new material has been ongoing for a number of years now and, In 2016, she said: “I refuse to put out something that isn’t honest,” and fans were forced to wait a little longer. “I’m sorry for being so quiet about everything (I thought I didn’t have much of a choice),” she later wrote in a post on social media. “I promise I’ll explain the last few years soon.”
“I don’t have a back-up plan,” Sky has said in an interview Pitchfork. “I never have. I don’t have an education. I don’t know how to, like, play music in the [traditional] sense. I’m socially awkward and stuff—I couldn’t really do a lot of other jobs either,” she adds.
“Literally, there’s no other option for me. So this has to work.”
The new music drops tomorrow, March 27th.
