Skrillex ordered to pay $1.6M in compensation to fan after injury at gig
A fan of Skrillex has won a lawsuit against the DJ worth in excess of $4.5million (£3.5m) after she was injured at one of his shows.
The damages come after Jennifer Fraissl sued the DJ in a legal battle that has been ongoing since February 2014. Fraissl’s case was built on the claim that she suffered a stroke after he stage-dived on top of her while performing at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles.
After hearing all the evidence in court, a jury awarded the woman a total of $4,525,402. The shift in responsibility has Skrillex accountable for about 35% of the incident which amounts to $1.6m (£1.25). Lost Boys, the touring company used by Skrillex will pay $1.8 million. The venue will also be forced to pay $450,000.
“There is nothing more important to me than my fans and their safety at my shows — I want them to have fun and enjoy the music,” Skrillex told TMZ. Barry Thompson, Skrillex’s lawyer, added that the evidence “included video proof that [Skrillex] never made physical contact with Ms. Fraissl.”
It is not yet known if Skrillex will appeal the decision.
