New Simon Pegg movie halts filming due to financial problems

Filming of a new movie set to star Simon Pegg has been halted after the production company ran out of cash.

The project, Angels in the Asylum, was also set to feature Minnie Driver opposite Pegg and tell the story of women who were locked away at an asylum in Surrey in the 1930s for carrying the disease typhoid.

Shooting began to take place in Lincolnshire, UK, in February, but the production was suspended only 15 days into the schedule.

However, producers Rob Sorrenti and Heather Greenwood released a statement saying they were “forced into hiatus” and that it was, “devastating when we were forced to halt filming due to our second round of financing failing to materialise”.

They added: “We have been desperately trying to raise finance with the goal of addressing our outstanding obligations to both our cast and crew. We have also put some of our own funds into the project, but sadly, it hasn’t been enough to rectify the situation,” noting ultimately, “We remain determined to find a solution.”

With filming for the movie now on hold for an indefinite period of time, it is unknown whether the Shaun of the Dead actor will ever hit the big screen in Angels in the Asylum.

Elsewhere, Pegg has experienced more success in the TV realm as he is set to return to his role in the British political thriller The Undeclared War, which Channel 4 announced back in February had been commissioned for a second series following its launch in 2022. The drama charts government intelligence officials as they battle a cyber attack on the country.
