New shocking details emerge of thwarted terrorist attack at Lady Gaga’s Brazil concert
More information has surfaced following the planned terrorist attack at Lady Gaga’s Copacabana Beach concert, which more than 2.5 million people attended on May 3rd.
Initially, a day after the concert, police in Brazil confirmed that two people were arrested in connection with the bomb threat plot. “The plan was treated as a ‘collective challenge’ with the aim of gaining notoriety on social media,” the police said.
In response, the authorities raided the locations of 15 suspects across several states in Brazil, confiscating phones and other electronic devices, which initially led to the arrest of two individuals.
Now, police have alleged that 44-year-old suspect Luis da Silva, who was deported from the US last month, planned to set off bombs close to the stage during Gaga’s performance.
At a press conference in Rio de Janeiro on May 5th, Civil Police Secretary Officer Felipe Curialleged that da Silva believed Gaga “was a Satanist and that he was going to perform a Satanist ritual too, killing a child during the show”.
The other individual to be arrested was a 17-year-old boy. Along with da Silva, they reportedly used Discord to communicate, radicalising others to attack members of the LGBTQ+ community and children.
The investigation was dubbed Operation Fake Monster by local authorities and came to fruition following a tip from Rio De Janeiro’s state police intelligence. De Silva was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm in the Rio Grande Do Sul region.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Gaga said of the incident: “We learned about this alleged threat via media reports this morning. Prior to and during the show, there were no known safety concerns, nor any communication from the police or authorities to Lady Gaga regarding any potential risks.”
Gaga’s representative continued: “Her team worked closely with law enforcement throughout the planning and execution of the concert and all parties were confident in the safety measures in place.”
