Shia LaBeouf arrested in New Orleans during Mardi Gras following alleged fight
American actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans over the weekend during the Mardi Gras celebration.
According to TMZ, an alleged physical altercation took place in the early hours of the morning on February 17th in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
Additionally, TMZ has shared footage, shot by eye-witnesses, that shows LaBeouf parading around the area shirtless, and an image of him in the back of an ambulance while receiving medical care.
They also report that LaBeouf, according to court documents, was arrested and is facing two charges of simple battery.
In a statement, the New Orleans Police Department confirmed: “A man identified as 39-year-old Shia LaBeouf was reportedly causing a disturbance and becoming increasing[ly] aggressive at a Royal Street business.”
The statement continued, “Once removed from the building, the victim reported being struck by LaBeouf who used his closed fists on the victim several times.”
They allege that LaBeouf then left the scene before eventually he “came back, acting even more aggressive” and allegedly punched the same man, as well as another man’s nose.
He was then taken to the hospital for “treatment of unknown injuries”, and has since been released from the medical facility.
LaBeouf is yet to comment on the arrest.
The report comes shortly after The Hollywood Reporter published an article claiming that LaBeouf had been “terrorising” New Orleans.
One doorman told the publication that LaBeouf was “inebriated” and “somewhat belligerent”. Meanwhile, a fellow customer at a bar said of their encounter with him, “He was louder than everyone and was giving acting instructions to a girl at the bar.”
LaBeouf was previously instructed by a court to enter rehab in 2017 after being arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct in Savannah, Georgia.
Last year, LaBeouf opened up about his sobriety with The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that Mel Gibson, Sean Penn and Josh Brolin played a pivotal role in his recovery.
He told the publication, “He’s (Gibson) always been very lovely to me. He held my hand when I was really shitting on myself. Dude really stepped up for me in big ways. Him, Sean Penn, James Brolin — these guys got me to sobriety. They got around me and kept me alive.”
Last July, FKA Twigs, who accused LaBeouf, her former partner, of sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress in 2020, reached a private settlement with the actor, which brought an end to the longstanding legal case.
This is a developing story and is being updated live.
