Sheer Mag share propulsive new single, ‘Moonstruck’

American indie rock group Sheer Mag have returned with the latest single, ‘Moonstruck’. The energetic track channels classic rock sounds to preview the band’s upcoming album Playing Favorites.

‘Moonstruck’ takes its name from the like-titled Cher-starring movie of 1987 and lifts the listener’s chin with a propulsive beat and a choppy electric guitar progression. The group’s guitarist, Matt Palmer, has revealed in press materials that the song was written about “how invigorating it is to have a new crush.”

“After too long lost in the wilderness, it’s gratifying to find a beacon of tenderness to help reorient yourself in the maze of love,” he explained. “Written in 2021 and originally intended for a disco EP, ‘Moonstruck’ has been reworked as a more expansive and lush arrangement and features some of our favourite guitar work on the new record.”

Accompanied by a music video directed by Ryan Schnackenberg, ‘Moonstruck’ also draws inspiration from Rush’s 1981 track ‘Limelight’. It marks the third single from the upcoming album Playing Favorites, following the earlier releases, ‘All Lined Up’ and the title track.

The complete album is set to be released on March 1st via Third Man Records, with pre-orders currently available here.

Sheer Mag now prepares for an extensive 2024 tour. Beginning on March 29th in Washington, DC, the tour will make stops at major cities across the US, including Nashville, New Orleans, Dallas, Los Angeles, Chicago, and more.

The tour culminates with a set at the Field Day Music Festival in Northampton, Massachusetts, after a big homecoming gig in Philadelphia.
