Sharon Stone based her new villain character on social media: “The most scary thing right now”

Sharon Stone has said she based her villain character in the new movie Nobody 2 on social media, “because that is the most scary thing right now.”

The actor was speaking in a recent interview with The Guardian where she discussed her latest film and the road she has endured to perform in it, after years of being panned by critics in Hollywood.

Stone said: “Now, I’m making good films. I was good in Nobody 2 and I know it,” before going on to explain how she made the villain character of the crime boss Lendina more relatable to her.

“I said: ‘I need this villain to be more personal to me’,” Stone noted. “I don’t want to play villains unless they touch the zeitgeist. So I wanted this villain to feel as if she came out of social media, because that is the most scary thing right now.”

The film, which comes as the sequel to 2021’s Nobody, stars Bob Odenkirk as a top assassin who becomes embroiled in a fresh dynasty of crime, with Stone’s character at the centre.

On the subject of female actors being increasingly cast as villains, Stone commented: “I think very beautiful, smart people are perceived in very specific ways. Because I’m a woman who is beautiful, it’s easier to have me not be emotionally intelligent, not have me be deep, not have me be tender and full. People don’t really believe that a beautiful woman is accessible to them.”

The actor then said she believed that women are not often allowed to be multi-faceted as “She couldn’t be all those things, because then, Oh my God, she would be equal to a man! If I was beautiful and smart and nice, what would happen to society?”

Nobody 2 will be released in cinemas in the US on August 15th.
