Selena Gomez set to play Linda Ronstadt in new biopic

Selena Gomez has been cast as Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic about the eclectic and iconic singer.

The former Disney Channel star teased her involvement on social media earlier this week by posting a photo of Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir, Simple Dreams. Variety has now confirmed that Gomez will take on the role of Ronstadt in a new biopic.

Ronstadt’s official Facebook account has also shared news stories confirming Gomez’s casting, accompanied by the caption, “It all started with a simple dream”. No timeline for the film or casting plans for supporting roles have been revealed just yet.

John Boylan and James Keach are involved in producing the project, the latter of whom also produced a documentary about the singer in 2019. Titled Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, it featured interviews with Ronstadt alongside other huge artists like Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash and Stevie Nicks.

With over 30 records to her name spanning countless genres, Ronstadt has honed an impressive career in the industry. Some of her most notable achievements include an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and 11 Grammy wins. In 2011, she retired from the music industry.

Gomez is currently starring opposite comedy giants Steve Martin and Martin Short in the series Only Murders in the Building, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for ‘Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy’ at this year’s ceremony. Gomez lost out to Ayo Edebiri for The Bear.
