Golden Globes 2024: The full list of winners
While there are a variety of indicators that signal the viability of an actor or movie’s campaign leading to the Oscars, the Golden Globes are a major stop in the awards circuit. Celebrating some of the most prominent discoveries in the fields of film and television, this year’s competition was truly stacked with works from major filmmakers. However, some projects managed to stand out by scoring big across multiple categories.
One such film is Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which picked up several Golden Globes, including a ‘Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama’ win for Cillian Murphy. During his acceptance speech, Murphy said: “I knew the first time I walked on a Chris Nolan set that it was different. I could tell by the level of rigour, the level of focus, the level of dedication, [and] the complete lack of any seating options for actors that I was in the hands of a visionary director and master.”
Another big winner is Poor Things, a fantastic black comedy directed by the acclaimed Greek auteur Yorgos Lanthimos. Emma Stone delivered one of the finest performances of her career, picking up a Golden Globe for her fascinating work. While collecting the award, she said of the film: “I see this as a rom-com in the sense that Bella falls in life itself rather than a person. She accepts the good and the bad in equal measure — all of it is important.”
With Lily Gladstone receiving a much-deserved award for her powerful collaboration with Martin Scorsese on Killers of the Flower Moon and shows like Succession, Beef and The Bear being highlighted, this year’s collection of winners is a great place to start for those who missed out on 2023’s big releases.
