Sebastian Stan to star in new ‘Frankenstein’ movie
Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude and actor Sebastian Stan are teaming up for a new Frankenstein movie.
The Hollywood Reporter announced that Marvel Cinematic Universe star Stan will star in Jude’s upcoming film. The filmmaker is still working on the script.
The pair had wanted to work together previously, but could not think of a suitable project. Eventually, he pitched a Frankenstein film set in Romania to the star. Stan, who was born in Romania before moving to the US, enjoyed the idea. Reportedly, Stan will play both Victor Frankenstein and his monstrous creation in the movie.
“I’m writing a film now,” Jude told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a Frankenstein film in Romania. Frankenstein in Romania, it’s going to be called.”
This news comes after the official trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s reimagining of Frankenstein dropped recently. The gothic take will star Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth. Elordi was not initially lined up for the titular role: Andrew Garfield was initially announced for the part, but scheduling conflicts caused by the actors’ strike forced him to vacate his role in Frankenstein.
Jude will premiere his other take on a literary classic, Dracula, on August 10th at the 78th edition of the Locarno Film Festival.
Elsewhere at the festival, Love Actually star Emma Thompson revealed that Donald Trump asked her on a date back in 1998: “He said: ‘I’d love you to come and stay at one of my beautiful places. Maybe we could have dinner.’ I said: ‘Well, that’s very sweet. Thank you so much. I’ll get back to you.'”
Late last year, Stan starred in A Different Man. In a glowing four-star review of the movie, Far Out wrote, “Conflicting, complex and difficult feel like the only words for A Different Man. It’s the sort of film that has you analysing it right there and then, noticing how tight your chest feels or how wound up and genuinely frustrated you’re getting throughout the run time.”
Adding, “There is so much meat to it, as the plot is not only hooking and genuinely entertaining but is loaded with big questions that linger long after the credit.”
