Sebastian Stan to portray Donald Trump in new movie ‘The Apprentice’
Sebastian Stan has signed on to a new movie project titled The Apprentice. Ironically, the Captain America star will portray the central character, Donald Trump.
Stan will join the cast alongside Succession star Jeremy Strong and Maria Bakalova. Strong will portray the infamous attorney Roy Cohn, while Bakalova takes on a young Ivana Trump. The Apprentice began production earlier this week under the capable direction of Cannes prize-winning filmmaker Ali Abbasi.
According to press materials, The Apprentice will be “an exploration of power and ambition set in a world of corruption and deceit. It’s a mentor-protege story that charts the origins of an American dynasty. Filled with larger-than-life characters, it reveals the moral and human cost of a culture defined by winners and losers.”
Besides his work on Captain America, Stan is known for significant roles in Fresh, I, Tonya and Pam & Tommy, in which he portrayed the Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee.
In August, Trump turned himself into Georgia authorities to face charges related to an alleged plot to overturn the state’s 2020 election results. To secure his release from the Atlanta jail, Trump posted a $200,000 (£160,000) bail bond and is now awaiting trial. Characterising the case as “a travesty of justice,” he has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the legal proceedings.
Trump currently faces a total of 13 charges, including alleged cases of racketeering, solicitation of a public official to breach his oath of office, conspiracy to impersonate a public officer, conspiracy to commit forgery, and making false statements.
