Season two ‘House of the Dragon’ trailer goes back to Westeros
HBO has released the first trailer for the second season of House of the Dragon, taking audiences back into the world of Westeros. The show is a prequel to the popular Game of Thrones series, based on the works of author George R.R. Martin.
Releasing two trailers from different perspectives, representing the warring factions at the centre of the forthcoming season, the ‘Green Trailer’ is introduced by Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays King Aegon II Targaryen, while the ‘Black Trailer’ is headed up by Emma D’Arcy’s Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen.
Since the show is centred around the divide between the two houses, both trailers have the same information but with slightly different perspectives.
The highly-anticipated new season will continue the political backstabbing of the previous series, with the likes of Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans, Ewan Mitchell and Steve Toussaint all returning. First releasing in 2022, fans of the show were grateful to see HBO continue the spirit and tone of Game of Thrones with the prequel series that provided more of the same, including gory battle scenes and epic dragon flying.
In light of the recent writers’ strike, House of the Dragon remained one of the few projects unaffected by any setbacks. Since all of the writing for the show was completed before the writer’s strike last year, production continued as normal.
While George RR Martin is still set to oversee the writing of the series, the show will continue without a few familiar faces behind the scenes. Director Miguel Sapochnik had announced that he would be stepping down from production to work on other projects, leading to new directors such as Alan Taylor and Loni Peristere taking the reins.
Outside of the new directors, newcomers to the series include actors Gayle Rankin, Simon Russell Beale, and Freddie Fox. While there had been questions surrounding when the series would hit streaming services, it is set to premiere on HBO on June 18th, 2024.
