Sean Ono Lennon covers Temples track ‘Gamma Rays’

After producing their latest album, Sean Ono Lennon has released a cover version of the Temples track ‘Gamma Rays’.

The British group have been perfecting their unique brand of psychedelic rock since the release of their debut album, Sun Structures, in 2014. Aside from covering ‘Gamma Rays’, Lennon also served as producer on their 2023 album, Exotico, which the track appeared on. The LP followed his first time working with the group on their 2020 single ‘Paraphernalia’.

Temples bassist Tom Walmsley said of the track: “’Gamma Rays’ is where the journey began in the studio with Sean, so it felt right to return to the start and allow him free rein to take it from Exotico into outer space”.

Lennon has been making various inroads into the world of psychedelic music for many years. Outside of his pedigree as a producer, he has also lent his guitar and vocal skills to The Claypool/Lennon Delirium alongside Primus bassist Les Claypool.

The musician has also recently been working on overseeing the legacy of his father’s music from behind the mixing board as well. Lennon created remixes for the Gimme Some Truth: The Ultimate Mixes project, which serves as a remix and reimagining of his greatest solo material.

In a review of the Temples’ version of ‘Gamma Rays’, Far Out wrote: “If ‘Gamma Ray’ is anything to go on, these days, Temples are more interested in the Euro-electronica of the late ’70s and early ’80s than the twee pastoralism of The Byrds and their cardigan-wearing kin. Indeed, ‘Gamma Ray’ is infused with a distinctly modern paranoia”.
