Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs files $100 million defamation lawsuit over ‘Making of a Bad Boy’ documentary
Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs has sued NBCUniversal, Peacock TV and Ample Entertainment over the Making of a Bad Boy documentary.
The New York rapper, who has been charged with racketeering, sex trafficking by force and transportation for purposes of prostitution, filed a $100 million lawsuit against the media companies on February 12th.
Combs has accused the three parties of defamatory statements in the documentary, claiming he was “falsely, recklessly and maliciously” accused of serial murder and sex trafficking. The comments in the documentary were made by Al B. Sure, Rodney Jone, attorney Ariel Mitchell, and others. He claims that, due to the statements, he’s suffered “severe reputational and economic harm.”
Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy was said to “shed light on his childhood, rise to fame and recent criminal allegations, challenging viewers to rethink everything they thought they knew about the mogul behind the music—and the mugshot.” The documentary aired on Peacock on January 14th, 2025.
Variety reports that Combs’ attorney, Erica Wolff, shared a statement about the six-figure lawsuit, claiming the companies “made a conscious decision to line their own pockets at the expense of truth, decency, and basic standards of professional journalism.”
She continued, “Grossly exploiting the trust of their audience and racing to outdo their competition for the most salacious Diddy exposé, Defendants maliciously and recklessly broadcast outrageous lies in Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy. In the purported documentary, Defendants accuse Mr Combs of horrible crimes, including serial murder and sexual assault of minors – knowing that there is no evidence to support them.
“In making and broadcasting these falsehoods, among others, Defendants seek only to capitalise on the public’s appetite for scandal without any regard for the truth and at the expense of Mr Combs’ right to a fair trial. Mr Combs brings this lawsuit to hold Defendants accountable for the extraordinary damage their reckless statements have caused.”
Combs was arrested in September 2024 and is currently jailed at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn after being denied bail three times. He’ll remain behind bars until his trial, which is set to begin on May 5th. He denies all wrongdoing and has pled not guilty to the charges.
