Scarlett Johansson set for major role in ‘The Batman 2’

Scarlett Johansson is set to star opposite Robert Pattinson in the highly anticipated sequel, The Batman 2.

While no deal has yet been struck, negotiations are currently underway between the two parties, and in their final stages, according to Deadline.

It’s also reported that Johansson’s character would be one of the new roles that are set to be introduced by director/writer Matt Reeves for the new movie. However, one absence from The Batman 2 is expected to be Zöe Kravitz, who was Catwoman in the 2022 film.

The film is currently set for a 2027 release, and while details regarding the plot remain thin on the ground, Colin Farrell, who will reprise his role as The Penguin, recently provided a glowing review of Reeves’ script.

He shared: “I had many thoughts to share with Matt about the script. I really do think it’s a masterwork. Kind of a contemporary genre masterwork. It’s so brilliant and Robert [Pattinson] has got such a lovely journey to go on and take the audience through.”

Farrell continued, “It’s dense, it’s really really intelligent, it’s so deep and detailed. I’m saying too much.” The Irish actor then added, “It’s really extraordinary. I think he’s going to make an extraordinary film.”

Production on The Batman 2 is expected to begin in 2026, ahead of being released in cinemas on October 1st, 2027.

Johansson being linked to The Batman 2 comes shortly after she signed on for Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist reboot.

Announcing the news of his lead star, the director said in a statement to The Wrap: “Scarlett is a brilliant actress whose captivating performances always feel grounded and real, from genre films to summer blockbusters, and I couldn’t be happier to have her join this Exorcist film.”
