Scarlett Johansson confirms ‘Jurassic World 4’ role: “The script is so incredible”
Actor Scarlett Johansson has announced that she will be taking a lead role in the next Jurassic World movie, set to be directed by Gareth Edwards, the filmmaker known for Rogue One, Godzilla and The Raid.
The next entry in the Jurassic World franchise has been written by David Koepp, the writer behind Steven Spielberg’s original 1993 Jurassic Park movie, as well as 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park, which had also been handled by Spielberg.
In a new interview with ComicBook, Johansson spoke of her delight at being part of the next Jurassic World movie, the fourth in the franchise, following the 2015 original and two sequels released in 2018 and 2022, respectively.
“I am an enormous Jurassic Park fan,” Johansson said. “It is one of the first movies I remember seeing in theaters. I remember it so vividly. It was life-changing and mind blowing. I cannot express how excited I am.”
The actor went on to say how she thinks “the script is so incredible” for Jurassic World 4, adding, “David Koepp wrote it. He returned after like 30 years to write the script. He’s so passionate about it, which is so awesome.”
Jurassic World 4 will also likely be a brand new story that takes place away from the action of the original trilogy, which starred Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Those films have each brought in a huge box office over $1 billion worldwide, so Johansson is hoping for similar success.
Joining Johansson in the cast of the film are the likes of Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia- Rulfo, Luna Blaise and David Iacono.
Going on to discuss her excitement at taking on a role in the forthcoming movie, Johansson said, “I’ve been trying to get into this franchise in any possible way for over 10 years. I’m like, ‘I’ll die in the first five minutes! I can get eaten by whatever! I’ll do the craft service!'”
“I’ll do anything for it,” the Lost in Translation, Under the Skin and Black Widow actor added. “The fact that it’s happened in this way at this time just is actually unbelievable.”
Steven Spielberg is set to take on an executive producer’s role for Jurassic World 4, while Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are also producing the project. When production goes ahead, the cast and crew will head out to Thailand to shoot on location, while studios in Malta and the UK will also be used.
