David Koepp to write ‘Jurassic World’ reboot for Universal

A new Jurassic World reboot is being developed at Universal. Screenwriter David Koepp, who was responsible for the first two Jurassic Park movies, is set to helm the upcoming project.

These upcoming films will take Jurassic World into a brand new era. They are set to have a different story, and the cast from the original movies, such as Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, aren’t expected to return to their roles. On top of that, appearances from Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern will also not feature.

As of yet, there isn’t any news on who will be directing the as-yet-untitled movie. However, Koepp will be responsible for the screenplay. Steven Spielberg will act as the executive producer through Amblin Entertainment, along with Patrick Crowley and Frank Marshall, who will also help produce the movie.

While the Jurassic World franchise received mixed reviews from viewers, it consistently performed well at the box office and saw the return of many of the loved characters from the original movies.

At this stage, it’s unclear what direction Koepp will take the new series of films. The screenwriter may potentially opt for a more grounded version, such as that on display in the original Jurassic Park, or an idea from further afield. A tentative release date is currently scheduled for late 2025.

Koepp’s latest movie, Presence, was directed by Steven Soderbergh and starred Julia Fox, Lucy Liu and Chris Sullivan. The film recently premiered at Sundance Film Festival in Utah

In a recent interview with Variety, Koepp said of working with Soderbergh: “He has streamlined his process. He’s so effective and efficient that things that take mere mortals forever to do barely take him any time at all. He’ll shoot all day, go home and edit all the footage that night. That takes an astonishing level of mental agility.”
