Scarlett Johansson has detailed her desire to push forward the idea of an all-female Marvel film.
While Marvel may have been slow to introduce female superheroes in the past, Johansson’s role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe kickstarted a major change with Scarlet Witch, Gamora, Nebula, Valkyrie Captain Marvel and more coming to the forefront.
It has now emerged that the female actors who play the iconic superhero roles all came together to approach Kevin Feige, former Marvel Studios president and now Marvel chief creative officer, to discuss female-led films.
“It was so powerful for all of us female superheroes to be together because we don’t always crossover,” Scarlett Johansson told Yahoo before adding: “And here we were amongst all these incredible actresses that we’ve admired for so long. It just felt like the right move to approach Kevin with this, and he was very excited about it of course.”
When pushed on whether she believed the premise of an all-female Marvel film was the next step, Johansson offered her seal of approval while perhaps revealing a little hint about the future of her current character: “I think it’s something that audiences want, I certainly want [it]. It’s more opaque for me, obviously, because of my character’s fate. But I’m 100 percent all for it, I think it would be fantastic.”
