‘Saturday Night Live’ star Ego Nwodim quits show after seven seasons

Ego Nwodim has confirmed her exit from Saturday Night Live after seven seasons on the NBC show.

Earlier this week, Saturday Night Live confirmed its cast for the upcoming 51st season following a seismic shake-up that saw many faces leave, and several new ones arrive. Significantly, Nwodim did appear in the cast announcement.

However, the American comedian, who joined Saturday Night Live in 2018, has now revealed she will play no part in the forthcoming season. She wrote on Instagram: “The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL.”

Her heartfelt post continued, “I am immensely grateful to Lorne for the opportunity, to my castmates, the writers, and the crew for their brilliance, support and friendship.”

Nwodim concluded by writing, “Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories (and that laughter) with me always. Now invite me to your weddings please!!!”

Nwodim has already branched out from 30 Rock, and is set to appear in the upcoming Netflix comedy Little Brother alongside John Cena, Eric Andre, Michelle Monaghan, and Christopher Meloni.

Recently, Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, and Emil Wakim announced their time on Saturday Night Live had come to an end.

Additionally, Please Don’t Destroy’s John Higgins has also left the programme, while the trio’s Ben Marshall has been promoted to featured cast member status.

Joining Marshall as a new featured cast member for the new series are Kam Patterson, Jeremy Culhane, Veronika Slowikowska and Tommy Brennan.

Season 51 of Saturday Night Live will begin on October 4th.
