Sandra Hüller says ‘Digger’ is “beyond anything I’ve ever seen”

Oscar-nominated actor Sandra Hüller has lifted the lid on Alejandro G Iñárritu’s mysterious new movie, Digger.

The upcoming movie stars Tom Cruise alongside Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Riz Ahmed and Sophie Wilde.

With a release date set for October 2nd, 2026, information regarding the film still remains extremely limited. There has only been a cryptic teaser rather than a full-blown trailer, and no official synopsis has been provided at the time of writing.

Now, Hüller, who has to remain tight-lipped on the project in order not to break any legal agreements, has successfully enhanced intrigue surrounding the film even further in a new interview.

The German actor told The Hollywood Reporter, “I am nearly bursting wanting to talk about this movie. But I can’t. I legally can’t.”

However, Hüller did add, “I can say that I saw a version that’s maybe not the final version, and that it impresses me beyond anything I’ve ever seen. I think it’s going to be a remarkable film.”

Previously, Plemons described Digger as “one of the strangest, funniest, most tragic scripts I’ve read”, before adding that “there’s a kind of modern-day Dr. Strangelove thing” going on with the movie.

Another cast member who has nothing but superlatives to say about Iñárritu’s upcoming film is Stuhlbarg, who said of Digger, “This film is the craziest thing I’ve ever been a part of in my life. It’s fantastic. My God, I can’t wait to see how it is.”

At the moment, all we have to go on is the word of those involved in Digger that it’s a masterpiece, and the agonising wait will continue for a few more months yet before it’s finally released into the world.

Intriguingly, Iñárritu wrote the script for Digger with his Birdman collaborators Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, along with Sabina Berman. It also marks his first return to English-language film since The Revenant, which won Leonardo DiCaprio his first Academy Award.

Cruise, who won an honorary Oscar last year, will be hoping that his collaboration with Iñárritu also leads to an Academy Award.
