The Oscars announces exclusive global broadcasting deal with YouTube
The Oscars have confirmed a new multi-year global broadcast deal with YouTube.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and YouTube will begin their partnership in 2029, which is initially set to run through until 2033.
The next three editions of the Oscars will remain on Disney ABC. They will broadcast the prestigious awards ceremony for the last time in 2028, which also marks the 100th anniversary of the ceremony.
Academy CEO, Bill Kramer, and Academy President, Lynette Howell Taylor, said in a joint statement of the new agreement, “We are thrilled to enter into a multifaceted global partnership with YouTube to be the future home of the Oscars and our year-round Academy programming.”
They continued, “The Academy is an international organization, and this partnership will allow us to expand access to the work of the Academy to the largest worldwide audience possible — which will be beneficial for our Academy members and the film community.”
Kramer and Howell Taylor went on to say this new partnership “will leverage YouTube’s vast reach and infuse the Oscars and other Academy programming with innovative opportunities for engagement while honoring our legacy”.
Additionally, they hope it will “inspire new generations of filmmakers and provide access to our film history on an unprecedented global scale”.
Meanwhile, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said, “The Oscars are one of our essential cultural institutions, honoring excellence in storytelling and artistry. Partnering with the Academy to bring this celebration of art and entertainment to viewers all over the world will inspire a new generation of creativity and film lovers while staying true to the Oscars’ storied legacy.”
The 98th edition of the Academy Awards is set to take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on March 15th, 2026, with Conan O’Brien set to return as host for the second consecutive year.
The full list of nominations for the Oscars are set to be revealed on January 22nd, 2026.
