Sammy Hagar announces new summer tour with Rick Springfield
Sammy Hagar has confirmed a new run of shows for the summer across the US with Rick Springfield.
The run of dates is a continuation of Hagar’s celebration of his time with Van Halen on his Best of All Worlds tour, which will see him joined by his former bandmates Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani and Kenny Aronoff.
Additionally, the backing band will be completed by keyboardist Gregg Phillanganes.
Looking ahead to the tour, Hagar said in a statement, “We’re celebrating the legacy of the music and bringing it to a whole new generation of fans!”
Beginning on June 13th at the Hollywood Casino Ampitheater in St Louis, Hagar will play six dates with Springfield. The two artists also have shows lined up in Noblesville, Mt Pleasant, Clarkston, New Jersey and Massachusetts.
Then, Hagar will end the month with two shows, without Springfield, at the MGM National Harbor in Maryland on June 26th and June 27th.
Tickets are set to go on sale on January 16th at 10am local time, following an artist pre-sale on January 13th at 10am.
Only last month, Hagar cast doubt on his career as a touring artist, admitting of his Las Vegas residency, “It’s a dream come true for an elderly rock star that still wants to perform, because the hardest part of doing a tour and playing shows is not the show itself.”
He continued, “To me, it’s a dream come true. It’s extending my touring life. Otherwise, I don’t know if I’d go on tour again and do a major tour. I mean, I could go out and do a few shows here and there.”
Meanwhile, Hagar recently mourned the sad death of his close friend, Bob Weir. The Grateful Dead guitarist sadly passed away on January 10th due to underlying lung issues.
Hagar, who performed with Weir on several occasions throughout his career, took to his website to write, “Bob and I were born just two days apart. A couple decades ago we made a deal we were going to live to be 100, then get together and decide if we were gonna take it any further.”
The former Van Halen frontman also recalled one of his final conversations with Weir, sharing, One of the last things I said to Bob was ‘Hey, I thought we had a deal.’ His lack of response made me realize I was on my own on this one because Bob was already way past 100.”
