Sam Lloyd, the actor most commonly recognised for playing the role of downtrodden lawyer Ted Buckland on hit television show Scrubs, has died aged 56.
The actor, whose hugely successful television career also included roles in Seinfeld, Shameless, Desperate Housewives, Modern Family, The West Wing, Malcolm in the Middle and more, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and lung cancer in 2019.
The news of his illness was confirmed shortly after the birth of his new child, Weston. His agent confirmed his passing on Thursday April 30, 2020.
Scrubs lead actor, Zach Braff, who worked alongside Lloyd has led the tributes when he took to social media: “Rest In Peace to one of the funniest actors I’ve ever had the joy of working with,” Braff tweeted. “Sam Lloyd made me crack up and break character every single time we did a scene together. He could not have been a kinder man. I will forever cherish the time I had with you, Sammy.”
Robert Maschio, fellow Scrubs actor also paid tribute to his co-star: “Simpler times, happier days, the kindest man I ever met. Easy going Sam, Rest In Peace. #RIPSamLloyd”
Bill Lawrence, the creator of the show, added: “Thinking a lot about Sam Lloyd today. (Ted). Truly such a kind, sweet guy. He will be missed by so many.”
Alongside his hugely popular television career, the character actor appeared in a number of big name feature films such as Flubber, Rising Sun, Back by Midnight and more.
Sam Lloyd is survived by his wife Vanessa and their son, Weston.
