Sam Fender and Olivia Dean on track to break British chart record
Sam Fender and Olivia Dean are on track to secure another piece of British chart history with their collaboration ‘Rein Me In’.
After originally releasing the song a year ago, in June 2025, the pair set a new precedent when it eventually hit number one in February this year, after entering at number 86 and moving up the chart progressively for 35 weeks.
Having now spent 14 non-consecutive weeks at the top spot since then, the upcoming new chart listings could prove pivotal to the historical fate of the song.
Wet Wet Wet have ruled for 32 years after their cover of the song ‘Love is All Around’, taken from the soundtrack of Four Weddings and a Funeral, which spent 15 weeks at number one upon its release in 1994.
However, the Official Charts suggests that Fender and Dean could be hot on the band’s heels and on course to secure another week at the top, thus equalling the record and subsequently breaking it if any further stints at number one are claimed afterwards.
With its current run, ‘Rein Me In’ was last week already named as the most successful single of the 2020s so far, overtaking the lead set by Alex Warren’s ‘Ordinary’ last year.
The charts are only part of the picture for Fender and Dean, though, with the song having been declared three times Platinum in the UK, as well as taking home ‘Song of the Year’ at the 2026 Brit Awards.
The latter award marked Dean’s sweep at this year’s ceremony, held at Manchester’s Co-op Live, where she took home four awards in total, including ‘Artist of the Year’ and ‘British Album of the Year’ for The Art of Loving.
For Fender’s part, the reimagined duet was taken from his original version on his third album People Watching, which saw him crowned king of Newcastle when he took home the Mercury Prize at the hometown ceremony last October.
